What is Chris Daughtry’s Net Worth?
Chris Daughtry, the American singer and actor, has amassed a net worth of $8 million. He gained fame on the fifth season of “American Idol”, where he made it to the final four.
Despite being unexpectedly eliminated during Top 4 week, Daughtry went on to achieve great success in his music career. He recorded a self-titled solo album and four more albums with his band, Daughtry.
Daughtry’s success as a musician is evident in his album sales, which rank third among “American Idol” alumni, with only Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood selling more albums.
Previously a “Rocker Dad” living in North Carolina, Daughtry’s quick rise to fame transformed him into a headlining artist and successful touring musician.
Early Life and Career
Christopher Adam Daughtry was born on December 26th, 1979 in McLeansville, North Carolina. He grew up in Lasker, North Carolina until moving to Palmyra, Virginia at age fourteen. He has one brother.
When he was sixteen, he began to seriously consider pursuing a career as a musician. He started to take guitar lessons from blues rock musician Matt Jagger at Stacy’s Music Store located in Charlottesville, and he further sought to enhance his guitar skills with lessons from Mark Ebert, located in Laurinburg, North Carolina.
While attending high school at Fluvanna County High School in Palmyra, he performed as an opening act for local bands. In high school, he participated in the school’s production of the play “The Wiz” and “Peter Pan.” He also formed his own band in high school called Cadence and sang lead vocals and played rhythm guitar. The group produced one album “All Eyes on You,” which was released in 1999. While a member of Cadence, he would sometimes play guitar and sing vocals for the band Absent Element.
He later joined Absent Element full-time, and they enjoyed moderate success performing around North Carolina and Virginia. The group self-released their first EP album, “Uprooted,” in 2005. The songs “Conviction” and “Breakdown” from that album were combined, re-recorded, and featured on Daughtry’s first self-titled album. In 2005, Daughtry auditioned for the CBS singing competition show “Rock Star: INXS,” but he was cut prior to the live performance stage of the contest.
Audition and Early Performances on American Idol
In 2006, Daughtry auditioned for American Idol’s fifth season in Denver, Colorado, with a rendition of The Box Tops’ “The Letter.” Abdul and Jackson voted for him to continue, but Cowell found his performance robotic. Nevertheless, he received a Golden Ticket to Hollywood and advanced in the competition, performing “The First Cut Is the Deepest” in the top 24 and receiving high praise for his rendition of Fuel’s “Hemorrhage (In My Hands).”
Despite making it to the top four, Daughtry was eliminated in a surprise cut after landing in the bottom two with Katherine McPhee. Cowell expressed that he believed McPhee should be eliminated, but it was Daughtry who left the show on May 10th, 2006. He attributed his elimination to fans believing he was safe and not voting for him.
Daughtry’s Success as a Band
Daughtry, formed by Chris Daughtry after his stint on “American Idol,” released their debut album “Daughtry” in 2006 under RCA Records. The album was a massive success, becoming the fastest-selling rock album and selling over 300,000 copies in the first week. The album’s first two singles, “It’s Not Over” and “Home,” peaked at no. 4 and no. 5 on Billboard’s charts, respectively. The album won an American Music Award and received four Grammy Award nominations. Daughtry’s second album, “Leave This Town,” was released in 2009 and topped both the Billboard album chart and the Billboard Top Rock Album chart. The album’s leading single, “No Surprises,” debuted at no. 15 on Billboard Hot 100. The album was certified Platinum in Canada and the U.S. and Silver in the United Kingdom. Daughtry’s third album, “Break the Spell,” debuted at no. 8 on the Billboard album chart but did not achieve the same level of success as their previous albums. Their fourth album, “Baptized,” released in 2013, sold only 55,000 copies in the first week. Chris Daughtry’s vocal range has been praised by critics, but his success as a solo artist has not translated to the same level of success with his band.
