Why Micki Ramirez Actor Lindsey Morgan Quit In Season 2 ·

Lindsey Morgan played the Latinx Texas ranger in CW's reboot of CBS's Walker, Texas Ranger, and her final episode was the show's midseason finale.

Despite the success of the Walker reboot, many viewers are understandably confused as to why the Micki Ramirez actor quit in season 2. Micki Ramirez's Lindsey Morgan announced her departure from the show back in October, and at the time, it was unclear what that would have entailed for her character. However, while the announcement made it clear that Morgan's time on the show would be short-lived, it was not immediately obvious why the Micki Ramirez actor quit in the first place.

In the reboot of the 1990s popular western drama Walker, Texas Ranger, Morgan played headstrong and methodic Texas ranger Micki, one of the few women with that ranking and one of the first Mexican American rangers. Her final episode on the show was season 2's midseason finale and episode 6 "Douglas Fir," which aired on December 10. Morgan was chosen to star alongside Jared Padalecki's Cordell Walker, the show's titular character. While Padalecki's character already existed in Walker, Texas Ranger and was its protagonist, Morgan's Micki Ramirez was an original one, created specifically for the CBS show's reboot. In CW's Walker, The 100's star was introduced as Micki, one of the few Latinx rangers, in the pilot and played Cordell's partner, eager to progress in her career after having been promoted from State Highway Patrol officer to Ranger.

Morgan shared the news with a heartfelt Instagram post where she thanked the show, cast, and crew. In it, she explained she chose to step away from her role for personal reasons, clarifying it wasn’t a mutual choice but her own. She went on to say how she felt supported in her decision by her onscreen partner Padalecki, and how she was “overwhelmed with gratitude to all those involved for their full support and compassion.” Morgan also had words of affection for her character Micki Ramirez and the story the show was trying to tell about her hometown and her people.

In her post, The 100's Lindsey Morgan did not go further at explaining her departure from Walker than citing personal reasons. Towards the end of her post, though, she mentioned that the pandemic taught her that health and wellbeing should be everybody's priority. Not only that, she ended the post by saying that "that wasn't goodbye" and that she hoped that she would be able to go back to her career "healthier and happier."

Another clue that her wellbeing prompted the Micki Ramirez actor to quit Walker came up in an interview (via TV Insider) where she discussed Micki's ending storyline in the show. In it, she said she found parallels between her and Micki's life, especially Micki's decision to leave the force in order to take care of herself, and observed how it was funny that art imitated life. The Walker, Texas Ranger's reboot's actor admitted it was hard to come to that decision, especially for fear of guilt of making the choice of putting herself first. It can only be hoped that she feels better soon to go back to her career as she wished.
